Description: The Department of Structural Engineering (http://structures.ucsd.edu/) is seeking outstanding candidates for one or more faculty positions in the areas of:

    1) Smart and Adaptive Structures
    2) Structural/Geotechnical and Bridge Engineering
    3) Marine/Ocean Engineering
    4) Applied/Computational Mechanics

Exceptional candidates in all other areas will be given serious consideration. Innovation, systems-oriented engineering, and potential for multi-disciplinary research are of importance. The successful candidates are expected to develop pioneering research and a strong externally funded research program.

The Department of Structural Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in structural engineering and emphasizes cross-disciplinary research in civil, aerospace, mechanical, and marine structures. Current research activities include earthquake engineering, manufacturing of large-scale composite structures, computational mechanics, sports engineering, geomechanics and geotechnical earthquake engineering, large-scale experimental simulation of natural and manmade hazards, marine hydrodynamics and wave-structure interaction, structural reliability and risk engineering, NDE and health monitoring, information technology and intelligent systems, advanced material structural rehabilitation, and innovative nano-materials.

Major large-scale experimentation resources are available at the Structural Engineering UCSD Powell Laboratory and the new Englekirk Field Station. Synergy is facilitated through collaborative efforts with Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Bioengineering, Electrical and Computer Science, the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, the San Diego Supercomputing Center, and the Los Alamos National Labs.

The successful candidate must hold a doctorate or equivalent degree, with high-quality research and teaching potential. Salary: Level of appointment and salary will be commensurate with qualifications within the UC published pay scales.
